i think you should not switch between huntingford and kingswoo as it is pushing the prices too high for one round. You should pick a ground and get a ground licence.

Alternating between Kingswood and Huntingford has no bearing on the round prices. These are attributed to the rising cost of clays plus the general costs of running the shoot overall. There is no such thing as a ground licence. PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT (AS A RULE) REPSOND TO EMAILS WHERE THE SENDERS INFORMATION HAS BEEN HIDDEN. HOWEVER WE FELT THAT THIS QUESTION NEEDED TO BE ANSWERED. Bristol Clay Shooting
I would like to thank Neil & Charley and all staff at Bristol Clay Shoot for making my birthday on 27th July at the Kingswood shoot one to remember. First time I've ever shot and I really enjoyed it, even though it was particularly hot. I found some of the stands difficult (understandably), but I thought they were challenging and varied - and getting 18 out of 50 I was estatic and will definately be back (if Neil will let me!). Thanks again.

Tara. We are glad you enjoyed your day with us and hitting 18 out of 50 on your first ever attempt is fantastic. You are more than welcome to shoot with us anytime. We are pleased that your birthday was made memorable and look forward to seeing you soon. Bristol Clay Shooting
With Ref to Grahams comment on 13/05/08 about the dry runs. I shoot a lot at Fareham gun club in Hampshire and whenever the squad i was shooting with reached a stand we were always allowed to see a pair before any of us shot. Otherwise if you get to stand that is empty how can you watch the shooter in front of you? It would be unfair for a person never having shot at a particular place to be first up in the squad and having no idea where the targets were coming from. I am staying in Bristol for a while and hopefully wil get chance to shoot at one of your grounds before moving back to Gosport.

At Bristol Clay Shooting we don't squad people. It is a case of turn up and shoot. We fully understand that people look at the targets before they shoot them and we make an allowance for it especially if they havent seen someone shoot the stand. However it becomes unsporting when individuals, who have seen others shoot a stand take a dry run just for the sake of it. We look forward to seeing you at one of our grounds.
I would like to say "great website", I look at it once a week and find it very useful.

Can this layout be setup for the next Huntingford shoot as I was away on the 25th May so couldn't shoot.
Thanks
Russ

I think the layout at huntingford on 25 th may was very tough and it would seem most of the shooters in the elite division did not shoot that particular sunday. It would seem the high gun was 37. Charley i think you should have a look at this and maybe recalculate the scores out of 40 rather than 50? (The call it smoothing at the government statistics office) as clearly the difficulty we all obviously encountered was universal? Surely it can't be right that people are made to think they are elite when they don't shoot? Or have I got it wrong?

Sunday 25th May was very wet. It rained from 4am onwards with not much let up. However we did have people come and shoot (not as many as usual but due to weather is quite understandable) The comments we had back off people on the day was that it was a good layout with good targets and thoroughly enjoyable (apart from the weather) With regards to the divisions we do have it that if people havent shot or handed in a card for over 4wks then their name is dropped off the statistic pages. This is the fairest way we can do it to allow for an overall picture of peoples scores.

charley thanks for the boards at Huntingford on Sunday. However on stand 4 a shooter in front of us shot the first pair round the wrong way. Rightly or wrongly I quietly said to the buttoner you should shoot them round the other way. he said "I know he prefers them that way!! Some other experienced shots were also shooting stands incorrectly. I guess it will take people time to get used to the boards and taking note of the information. I think it was much easier to shoot stand 3 (battue and driven) with the battue last as one wouldn't be thinking of positioning for the second bird on report, and allowing more thinking time to nail the battue.
How about putting the boards just behind the buttons?
stand one was trickey and the battue on stand 3 was catching a lot of people out. the rabbit in long grass was also well thought out.
I have also noticed shooters entering the stands and tracking a dry pair of targets before taking their shots. This is of course strictly against the rules. I know we all shoot here for fun but at other competitions etc this would not be acceptable.
Keep ordering the good weather as well please.

Graham. Glad that you found the boards useful. Other shooters (as you pointed out) will always shoot it the way they want too. The positioning of the boards will probably change on a weekly basis. With regards to a dry pair of targets you are right in saying that this is incorrect (English Sporting Rules) and that shooters should watch the person in front to see where the targets are coming from. I have put my order in for fine weather for the weekend. Charley
I fully agree with the previous comments regarding safety, efficient queuing, correct order of shooting and i totally support the shoot on the issue of noise pollution.
But on a more important note, what has happened to the bacon sandwiches ????
Added by: Jon on 07/05/2008
Mr Rice. We value your comments and fully agree with them all. With regards to the bacon sandwiches. They are free. Are subject to availability. However. Slimmer shooters take priority.

I live in Hillesley & hope to shoot with you sometime soon.
The current village newsletter, "Hillesley Happenings" has a long whinge about the supposed noise from your shoot at Kingswood. Someone has complained to the planning department at Stroud District Council.
The Council says permission is needed if shooting takes place more than 28 days a year.
As you alternate fortnightly, it seems you only shoot 26 times annually at Kingswood, so there should be no problem
I can hear firing from my home, but it is a very flat sound & does not disturb me.
I thought you ought to be aware of this
Yours
Nicholas O'Brien.

Thank you so much for your comment. We are aware of the 'interest' of our shooting timetable ( we have friends in Hillesley who have informed us!) and we will be dealing with it accordingly and through the correct channels. It is nice to hear we have support from local residents as we are local ourselves. We look forward to seeing you at our shoot in the near future.

Hi Neil,
Just a quick note to say thanks for a great afternoon last week. We all really enjoyed ourselves and thanks to you and the team for making it such a good but relaxed afternoon.
I hope we can meet again in the future some time

I think both the shoots are both going from strength to strength. Excellent use of speed angles and combinations are employed. A credit to the course setter(s).
I have a few suggestions:
1. How about a card on each stand describing how to shoot it. I.e. Simultaneous pair standard clays or O/R standard trap 1 midi trap 2.
This way we all shoot the same course. Last week at Kingswood I saw people shooting things differently.
2. Also we all enjoy our shooting but queuing is sometimes a problem. Be ready to shoot when it is your turn. Gun ready, cartridges in your pocket and order for your squad sorted as well as who is going to trap and score. All too often a group stops shooting and the next group then start to get their guns and ammunition etc. It should take no longer than 1 minute to shoot 10 clays.
I also saw someone loading 3 shots in an auto (I spoke to him about this). This is very very dangerous. No more than 2 cartridges should EVER be loaded on a clay shooting ground. It is so easy to load 3 then shoot 2 clays and forget that one is up the spout!!

Would it be possible to put a board on the cage advising which targets should be shot first, i recall this is sometime done at Kingswood but not seen this at huntingford. I say this as when reading the weekly shoot report the birds are sometimes shot differently.
Added by: Bob on 28/04/2008
Bob. We agree. We used to do so at Kingswood, but through the winter we stopped doing so as the boards got wet. We have noticed that some people have been shooting stands the wrong way round and making it harder for themselves. We will get new boards and start using them at both grounds asap.
Regards
Charley
